What is Extended Care?

Extended care is best described as a variety of medical and non-medical services needed by individuals who have a chronic illness or disability and is commonly due to aging. However, extended care may be needed by anyone at any age. Extended care can include everything from assistance with activities related to daily life to more specialized therapeutic and medical care.

Why is Rehabilitation Important?

Rehabilitation is important for anyone who has lost or impaired abilities that they need for daily life. Have you had an injury, stroke, surgery or are experiencing side effects from medical treatments? Proper rehabilitation care can help you get back, keep or even improve your ability to perform common tasks and increase your functioning and well-being.

For the duration of your stay with us, our goal is to make it your home away from home. We are partners in our residents’ recovery journey to help them get back to their best health and well-being. When you choose the Center for Extended Care and Rehabilitation at Amherst, you can take comfort in knowing that your loved one is in the best possible hands.

Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapies 7 Days a Week

Seven days a week, we provide physical, occupational and speech therapies to help individuals regain their independence and return to their homes or a lower level of care as soon as possible. These therapies may also include medical management and monitoring for conditions that require it.

Orthopedic Rehab

While most people hope to go home directly from the hospital after surgery to replace a joint, at times, your recovery may be slower than expected. As a result, you may need to be transferred to a skilled nursing facility. Our skilled nurses, physical and occupational therapists will help you regain your strength, ensure you receive the proper medicines and teach you the skills you need to do everyday tasks while you recover.

Stroke Recovery

Our stroke recovery and rehabilitation program contains a series of different therapies designed to help you relearn skills lost after a stroke. There’s a wide range of complications from stroke — and how well each person recovers afterward. Stroke rehabilitation can help you regain independence and improve your quality of life.
